SMART-TD members can now access a new online Job Insurance (DIPP) claim form via the Member Portal on the SMART website and the SMART Union Mobile App.
By utilizing an online format, your union hopes to make the claim and local officer verification processes easier and timelier for members seeking benefits.
What You Need to Know
As currently required on the paper form, members must complete or verify their personal details, incident information, selection of a GCA or Local officer to confirm discipline and include (or upload) a discipline letter when using the online form.
Once a member submits the form, an automated e-mail is sent to the General Committee of Adjustment (GCA) or local officer noted with a link to the claim form so that the statement section can be completed.
After that, the information is submitted electronically to the DIPP Administrator for review and approval.
What Happens to the Paper Forms and PDFs?
Don’t worry, they’re not going anywhere.
If you prefer, you can still complete a hard copy of the form and mail it to the DIPP office or complete a fillable PDF and e-mail it to the DIPP office.
The choice is ultimately yours, and we encourage members to use whichever method is best for them.
If you have questions about the new form, please reach out to your local DIPP representative, call the TD office, or e-mail DIPP_TD@smart-union.org.
