One of the rewards of union membership is knowing that our families can benefit directly from opportunities like college scholarships. 

Scholarships That Support the Whole SMART-TD Family 

Scholarships are available not just to you as a member, but to spouses and dependent children too. These programs can help cover the rising costs of higher education and make the dream of a college degree more affordable. 

Dozens of awards are offered annually to eligible applicants in the transportation trades. Since these programs began, they have provided critical support to students pursuing degrees in every field imaginable. Whether your child is just beginning their academic journey, or you or your spouse are looking to expand your career opportunities, these scholarships are a meaningful way to turn hard work into brighter futures.

Union Plus Program: Applications Open Now

The Union Plus Scholarship program is open right now for applications. Union Plus, which exists to serve union families, offers scholarship awards ranging from $500 to $4,000. The application period for the 2026 program is underway, and applying is free and straightforward. With awards that can cover tuition, books, or other educational expenses, this is truly “free money for college” available to union households. 

Many of the other scholarships open for applications over the winter and in early spring, so now is a great time to gather the information and start making a plan to participate.
