SMART VSTD-VILP BENEFITS

SMART VSTD (VOLUNTARY SHORT-TERM DISABILITY)

The Voluntary Short-Term Disability (VSTD) plan, self-funded by SMART and administered by Southern Benefits Administrators, Inc., provides a basic “safety net” of coverage for members and is designed to work in combination with state-mandated disability programs.

Coverage pays for up to 52 weeks per years and is for off-duty accidents and illness. The monthly cost of coverage is collected through payroll deduction.

New SMART TD members will be enrolled automatically unless they choose to opt out of the plan by submitting a waiver form to the SMART TD office.

SMART VILP (VOLUNTARY INCOME AND LIFE PROTECTION)

The Voluntary Income and Life Protection (VILP) Program introduces a new Voluntary Gap Short-Term Disability Insurance Plan. It is designed to enhance and work alongside the existing SMART-TD Voluntary Short-Term Disability (VSTD) coverage. By stacking with the current benefits, this new plan offers expanded income protection for members unable to work due to injury, illness, or surgery.

In addition to this new coverage, members will continue to have access to Voluntary Long-Term Disability (VLTD) and Voluntary Life Insurance (VLIFE). Together, these three benefits form the SMART-TD VILP Program, providing a comprehensive financial protection package tailored to the unique needs of SMART-TD members.
